Previously know as the Guiness Book of Records, The Guiness Book of World Records is a yearly published book that tells about the many different record setting events, people, places, things, etc. This series of books reveals the achievements of mankind as well as worldly extremities.

The Guiness Book of World Records was made up from contributions of athletes, journalists, and known twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhrither in 1955. Regardless of the fact that the book was produced in 1955, this historic series of books was forged out of the rich pride and history of a popular Irish brewery names Guiness.

Although the Guinness Book of World Records was initially made simply for settling bets made in bars by the locals, the owners of Guinness saw an opportunity to their revenue and be known for something more.

The idea originated in Ireland in the spring of 1951 when Sir Hugh Beaver was in an altercation about Europe’s fastest bird while at a shooting party.

On the same night, the managing director of the Guinness Brewery realized that there was no book with the enough available information to settle the previous dispute. How could something like this not exist to inform people of the amazing occurrences in this world?

Then was when he concluded that making this book could become a very popular trend and immediately went to work. You should very well know what happened after this.

Since this world famous book was produced in 1955, Guinness has sold millions of copies world wide and has continued to do so over the years. Not only is this book about world record holders, but it holds a record of its own as the all time best copyrighted series.

As one more example of how popular this book is, it is also on the list of most stolen from public libraries.

Adding a high end exhaust system is one of the first things car enthusiasts look to do when customizing their cars. Exhaust systems can dramatically increase the performance of your car while adding to the look of the car. If you like to hear your engine prr, an exhaust will do the job!

The best way to describe how an exhaust operates is by comparing it to the human respiratory system. The tubing throughout the exhaust system is how the gases are released and in a custom exhaust system, the gases can be released more effectively.

Mandrel bent tubing is a much smoother way for the gases to exit as the diameter is the same all around.

Depending on the type of car you have, there maybe a better brand for you to choose from. Some of the more popular brands for after market exhaust systems include the following: Borla, Gibson, MagnaFlow, Flowmaster and Dynatec. Each company has a great reputation and offer many different products. Prices will vary depending on the type of work you do, but expect to spend around $500 as a bottom starting point.

Never rush into making this purchase as this is an investment that can last a very long time. Always make sure it’s the right system for your car and once it’s complete, you’ll love the new car. It may actually feel like a new car if you get a quality system!

There is this new concept in video technology called a digital video recorder. Okay, well it’s not really all that new. But it is new to a lot of people. It allows you to record and store literally hundreds of hours of television without cassette tapes.

What was really amazing to me was that I read they can figure out what you want it to record without you telling it. You start out by telling it your favorite shows and it fills in the rest, including things like recording times, channels, duration and the like.

All of a sudden, I don’t have to worry about dealing with the obnoxious habit of inserting a VHS tape, going through the programming interface to set the recorder to record, telling it when to stop, etc. The DVR does all that and does it better and in higher quality. It even lets you skip over entire commercial breaks.

Since I read that article, the price of DVR units has absolutely hit the floor. You can buy ones for almost the same price as a DVD or VHS machine. I did a little research before I went out to buy and finally settle on a Panasonic Replay TV. It seemed reliable and it has been except for some minor issues from time to time.

It freezes up every so often, but besides that it works absolutely wonderfully now as it did when I bought it.

Of course, everybody has a DVR nowadays. Some cable companies offer them as part of a cable package. Some people swear by the standalone Tivo brand. Overall the things work better and are stronger and faster than they were when I bought mine.

It’s safe to say that the DVR has totally revolutionized the way people watch TV around here. It’s almost as though we take for granted that we once had to watch TV on the TV station’s time schedule. I almost never watch TV live anymore.

In fact, as I wrap up writing this article, I’m getting ready for a little relaxation time with one of my favorite shows. I have three episodes to catch up on. I couldn’t have done that without a DVR.

As far as movies go, 2010 has been off to a slow start. It is officially summer movie season but you wouldn’t know it since the box office has been so lackluster the past few weeks. New entries like Prince of Persia and Ashton Kutcher’s killers, just don’t have the same allure as movies of comparable weekends in years past (Spiderman, Pirates, etc).

Fortunately, there are some movies coming out that you should look forward to.

The Adrien Brody science fiction thriller, Splice, came out last week and although it hasn’t done much at the box office, it has been getting great feedback from critics and moviegoers. I have not seen it but it is at the top of my short-term movie list.

With the potential to be the biggest Pixar success yet, Toy Story 3 is coming out this summer. The original Toy Story was the first CG animated movie of its kind and Pixar has been churning out classics ever since. You know if they took this long to make it, that it will be great.

My early pick for best picture of the year belongs to Inception. Directed by the great Christopher Nolan and starring an interesting combination of Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page, Inception is one of the few big budget original screenplays being released this year.

If you are not familiar with Christopher Nolan’s work, you should be. Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight are all amongst my favorite films and at this point, I trust the guy with any script, as does Hollywood.

I’m not sure why, but I really want to see M. Night Shymalan’s new film, The Last Airbender. The only films of M. Night’s that I enjoyed were the Sixth Sense and The Village, so if this one stinks, I’m done with him.

I think Cyrus is another movie to look out for. It is a dark comedy starring Jonah Hill, John C. Reilly and Katherine Keener and has received rave reviews at film festivals this year.
